New home page visible to first time visitors and existing users outside an IP range

The newly designed home page has been created to cater for first time visitors and existing users who may access EMBASE.com outside an IP range. If you are a user that accesses EMBASE.com remotely using a claim key, you will be directed to this new homepage. You will not notice any changes to the EMBASE.com interface as a user within an institutional IP range.

Three key areas include:

EMBASE.com home page

EMTREE Thesaurus now includes the date on which an Emtree Term was first added

The date on which an EMTREE term was first used by EMBASE indexers as a preferred term is of crucial importance as it determines the oldest records that are retrievable using a mapped search for this term. In order to retrieve other potentially relevant records containing this term a free text (unmapped) search should be done. To view this new field, simply follow the info link (information section) on the specific EMTREE term under EMTREE Keywords. You can see an example in the screenshot below.

CAS Registry Numbers now linked directly to PubChem Compounds Database in NCBI

The PubChem Compounds Database contains validated chemical depiction information that is provided to describe substances in PubChem substance. Structures stored within PubChem Compounds are pre-clustered and cross-referenced by identity and similarity groups. PubChem is integrated with Entrez, NCBI's primary search engine and it provides information on the biological activities of small molecules. This functionality enables you to follow a link directly to this specific free database.

For example, one CAS Registry Number for the term fluoxetine is 54910-89-3. By clicking on this number, you will be directed to http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pccompound&term=54910-89-3.

Tip: CAS Registry Numbers can be found in EMBASE.com within the Record under "Additional Information" and can also be searched using the Field Search.
